My car was driving sluggish.?

I have a 1995 ford probe. Today while driving it, it began to get really sluggish. I had to press hard on the gas for it to even move, but once it got over 25 or 30 it drove fine, then it started smoking. I pulled off and let it cool off, someone suggested I use fuel injector treatment. I did so, it did not run slugish on me though when at a red light it twice completely died. I got back home, and noticed it was still smoking a bit though not as much as before. Was the guy right and is the smoking and dying a reaction to the fluid? Or do you think I have a problem on my hands? Please let me know what you think it may be, I am not good with cars at all so I have no clue.
