Biology people please help me?

DNA and RNA nucleotides only pair with with one other base (so G only pairs with C etc) which is what makes base pairing specific rather than random. Because of this, the original strand acts as a template for new strands of DNA in replication, new strands of RNA in transcription, and for the genetic info in your DNA to be turned into proteins in translation. Because of specific base pairing, the "new" strand is a predictable opposite to the original strand.
